After being defeated by the
Brooklyn Cyclones in the final game of a three game set, the
baby bombers boarded a bus heading upstate for their next
series. The Yankees began a brief three game road trip against
the Batavia Muckdogs with a loss.
It looked as if the Yankees
were alive early on in the contest as they were the first to
score, plating two runs in the top of the first. After Justin
Snyder lead off with a ground out Luis Nunez drew a walk and
then moved over to third on Damon Subeltt’s seventh double.
Jose Gil then belted a line drive to right field that fell in
for a hit and gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
The Yankees would remain ahead
by two runs until the bottom of the third when Adam Olbrychowski
would give up two consecutive doubles to Arnoldi Cruz and
Nicholas Derba with two outs. The Muckdogs would score again in
the fourth inning to tie the game and giving Olbrychowski a no
decision.
The baby bombers and the
Batavia Muckdogs would remain in a deadlock until the bottom of
the seventh inning when the ‘Dogs were able to plate the go
ahead run. The Yankees retaliated in the bottom of the eighth
when Justin Snyder led off the inning with a homerun to right
field. However Yankees pitching was unable to keep it
together. In the bottom of the inning Yankee pitching gave up
four singles and three walks combined with a wild pitch gave
Batavia an 8-3 lead.
Staten Island was unable to
cash in with runners on the bases and no one out in the ninth
inning. After Isaiah Howes and Taylor Holiday singled to open
up the inning, the next three Yankees batters went down in
order. The Yankees and Muckdogs will meet again in game two
with Nick Chigges on the mound.
