The Staten Island Yankees were
defeated by the Oneonta 3-1, at the newly renovated Damaschke
Field. The bombers held the Tigers to just two hits in the
contest, but Oneonta took advantage of walks and errors for the
victory.
Adam
Olbrychowski was on the hill for the baby bombers, making his
sixth start of the season. Olbrychowski struggled throughout
the contest walking four in four innings of work. He walked the
first two batters he faced but was able to get out of trouble
striking out the third batter he faced and inducing two fly
balls to right.
Staten Island was the first to put runners on the board as
Justin Snyder lead off the fourth inning with a walk and
advanced to third on a one out single to right by Damon
Sublett. Braedyn Pruitt then hit a grounder to the shortstop,
Sublett was called out at second but Pruitt was safe at first
with Snyder scoring on the play.
The bombers lead did not last very
long as the Tigers would take the lead in the bottom of the
inning. Olbrychowski started off the fourth with a walk to
Chris Carlson and a single by Michael Sullivan. Casper Wells
hit a ground ball to second, but an error by Damon Sublett
allowed Carlson to score, Sullivan to advance to third and Wells
to go into second. With two men on and one run already in,
Olbrychowski struck out the next two batters before walking Kyle
Peter on a wild pitch which allowed the base runners to
advance. Another error on a pickoff attempt allowed Wells to
score and Peter to move to third, giving the Tigers the 3-1
lead.
Adam Olbrychowski pitched four
innings of two hit ball giving up three unearned runs for the
loss. He struck out six batters in four innings and lowered his
ERA to 3.24. Justin Snyder was hitless in the contest, but
earned two walks and scored the Yankees only run. DJ
Hollingsworth was the only Yankee with a multi-hit game, going 2
for 3 in the eighth spot on the scorecard.
The bombers and Tigers will meet up
again in game two with Ryan Pope taking the mound.
