Williams Doubles in Yanks Victory

Right-fielder was one for three with three RBIs

July 22, 2007 - It could not have been a better afternoon for a ballgame.  The Staten Island Yankees and State College Spikes met up in the rubber game of a three game set.

 

Both teams put up zeros until the fourth, when with the bases loaded David Williams knocked a three run double to right.  Braedyn Pruitt and Jose Gil belted back-to-back singles to start the inning.  With two outs Austin Krum was hit by the pitch and David Williams came up to the plate.  Williams’ doubled to plate the first three runs of the ballgame and give the Yankees the lead.

 

The score would remain at 3-0 until the sixth inning.  After a fly out by Isaiah Howes to start the inning, Austin Krum reached on an error by the first baseman then David Williams and Justin Snyder walked to load the bases.  After a pitching change, Taylor Holiday belted a sacrifice fly to left for the Yankees fourth run.

 

Ryan Zink started the game for Staten Island; Zink went six innings giving up no runs on five hits with five strike outs.  Craig Heyer came in to start the seventh.  After two quick outs, Heyer allowed four consecutive singles for State College’s first run.  State College would plate a second run in the eighth inning as Heyer allowed a home run by Justin Byler to left center.

 

Braedyn Pruitt belted three singles in three at bats with a walk, raising his batting average to .517.  David Williams was one for three with three RBIs.  Jonathan Ortiz came in the eighth inning with two outs and finished the game for his fourth save of the year with the baby bombers.  Ortiz gave up just one run on three hits in the ninth inning, he got out of trouble with men at the corners to strike out Andrew Walker and end the game.

 

Staten Island will enjoy a rare off day tomorrow before heading to Oneonta to take on the Oneonta Tigers.  Adam Olbrychowski, Ryan Pope, and Chris Farley are scheduled to pitch the series.
