July 21, 2007 - It was a cool and
clear night at the ballpark as the Staten Island Yankees and the
State College Spikes faced off in the second game of a three
game set. The bombers sent Zach McAllister to the hill in hopes
of getting their second win of the series.
The Spikes had
other plans as they took an early lead in the first inning and
scored once more in the fifth. The big inning for the Spikes
was the eighth when they scored five runs to put the game in
hand.
The bombers scored
just one run in the blow out, coming in the fifth inning. Luis
Nunez belted a one out single and then stole second with Chris
Raber at the plate. Raber then knocked an RBI single to left.
Errors cost the
bombers again as only four out of the seven runs were earned.
Justin Snyder had an off night at the plate going 0 for 4 with a
hat trick. Taylor Holiday, David Williams, Chris Raber and Luis
Nunez were the only players to get hits in the contest. Kyle
Hollander came in the eighth and pitched two shutout innings to
lower his ERA to one.
Tomorrow night
these two teams will meet in the rubber game with Ryan Zink on
the mound. Zink is looking to recover from two un-impressive
outings.
