Snyder Goes 4 for 6 in Game One

Justin Snyder hit three doubles and a single to raise his average to .393

August 7, 2007 – Justin Snyder belted 3 doubles and a single to raise his batting average to .393.  Taylor Holiday, Damon Sublett, and DJ Hollingsworth each had two hits in the game. 

 

The Yankees were the first to score in the game, plating 2 in the first inning.  After Justin Snyder led the inning off with a double (13) to left, and then Damon Sublett slammed his fifth homerun of the season with 1 out.

 

Zach McAllister started the game for the Bombers, pitching 2 innings and striking out 4 before the game was suspended in the bottom of the third.  Craig Heyer took over on the mound when they picked the game up on August 8.  Heyer went on to pitch 4 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) to earn the win. Jacinto Gonell, who made is SI Yankee debut, and Jeff Livek combined to pitch 3 shutout innings to finish the game.

 

Staten Island plated 3 runs in the fifth inning to cushion the lead.  DJ Hollingsworth and Chris Raber led the inning off with back-to-back singles, Hollingsworth scored on a throwing error by the third baseman while Raber advanced to third.  Justin Snyder belted his third double (15) of the game to plate Raber and then would come in when Taylor Holiday doubled.

 

The Yankees were not done scoring just yet as they plated another run in the seventh, after Justin Snyder led off reaching on an error and moving to second, a wild pitch with Taylor Holiday at the plate moved him to third.  Holiday then walked to bring up Damon Sublett; Sublett then belted a sacrifice fly for the sixth Yankees run.

 

Staten Island would put the game away in the eighth inning when they plated 4 runners.  Austin Krum started it with a 1-out triple, and then Jose Gil walked.  DJ Hollingsworth then reached on a force out, erasing Gil and plating Austin Krum.  With a man on first, Chris Raber reached on an error by the short stop to bring Hollingsworth to third.  Hollingsworth scored on a single by Justin Snyder which also brought Raber to second.  Back-to-back singles by Taylor Holiday and Damon Sublett plated the final 2 runs of the game and give the Yankees a 10-2 lead.

 

These two teams met up again in game 2 of the doubleheader later in the night.  They will finish the series tomorrow with Ryan Pope scheduled to take the hill.  After that the Yankees will return back to the Richmond County Bank Ballpark to take on the Jamestown Jammers for a 3 game set.
