– What started out beautiful ended up wet. That would describe just the
weather at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark as the Staten Island
Yankees faced off against the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Baby Bombers are
playing their best of the season, winning 4-in-a-row and evening the
season series with the cross-town rivals.
The game was scoreless
until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Baby Bombers plated 2
runs with 2 outs for the lead. Damon Sublett led the inning off with a
line drive single to short and then moved to second when Braedyn Pruitt
was hit by the pitch. The runners would move over when Matt Morris
grounded out to third for out number 2. Jose Gil then smacked a ball to
the third baseman that was bobbled, allowing both Pruitt and Sublett to
score.
The Bombers were not done
as they went on to pad the lead with 2 more in their half of the fifth.
Justin Snyder singled with 1 out and then moved to second when Taylor
Holiday grounded out. Damon Sublett was next at the plate and lined the
ball over the right-centerfield video board for his sixth homerun on the
year.
Adam Olbrychowski started
the game for the Staten Island Yankees. Olbrychowski threw 85 pitches
in 5 innings to earn his first professional win. The young right-hander
struck out 4 batters while walking 5, but he did not allow a run on 2
hits to lower his ERA to 4.36. Nick Chigges took over in the sixth
inning and went on to pitch 3 innings, allowing just 1 hit while
striking out 4.
The Cyclones were able to
smack back-to-back doubles off reliever Jason Kiley with 1 out. The
Yankees then opted to go to the bullpen bringing in their closer, “The
Sandman” Jonathan Ortiz. Ortiz went on get the next 2 outs for his
tenth save of the season.
The Staten Island Yankees
and Brooklyn Cyclones will meet up again tomorrow night as these two
clubs face off at Keyspan Park. Chris Farley will get the nod for the
bombers, his first against the Brooklyn Cyclones.
