Karstens Scheduled to Rehab with Staten Island
Alumni set to make Staten Island
return
By: Robert Pimpsner
July 9, 2007 - It has been four years since Jeff
Karstens set foot on the mound at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Back then he was a teammate of Melky Cabrera, TJ Beam, Matt DeSalvo and
Chase Wright on the 2003 Staten Island Yankees. Since then Karstens has
been on of several former Staten Island Yankees to play for the New York
Yankees.
After being sidelined since April 28 when he
was hit in the side of his knee on a line drive by Julio Lugo, Karstens
is set to make his return to the Bronx. He took the first step on July
7, pitching 3.1 innings for the rookie Gulf Coast Yankees, allowing just
three hits while giving up no runs.
Karstens is scheduled to make his next start with the Staten
Island Yankees this coming week. This means he will be back on the
mound at “The Bank.” The Staten Island Yankees begin a six game home
stand on Wednesday when they kick off a three game set against the
Auburn Doubledays. Karstens next start could be this Thursday in front
of a sold out crowd for camp day or on Friday.
